NCEL Weekend Preview

19th January, 2007

Two NCEL sides are on their travels this weekend aiming for a place in the last sixteen of the FA Vase.

Glasshoughton Welfare have the longest journey as they make a 250 mile trip to Wessex League side Wimborne Town in the Fourth Round of the competition.

Retford United, meanwhile, go to Greater Manchester to face Flixton FC of the North West Counties League.

All at the NCEL wish both sides the very best of luck.

In the league, there are eight games each in the Premier Division and Division One.

The top two Premier sides are both in action with leaders Sheffield travelling to ninth-placed Eccleshill United hoping to stretch their twelve-point advantage further.

But, Mickleover Sports, in second, will be confident of keeping hot on the heels of the Dronfield-based outfit at home to Thackley, who are in eighteenth.

With Retford in Vase action and Garforth Town without a game, fifth-placed Maltby Main could go above those two with a win at home to another struggling side, next-to-bottom Brodsworth Welfare who have now not won in 21 matches.

The three sides below Main, who are four points behind the Muglet Lane team, will be looking to close the gap.

But, all are tough matches as Glapwell travel to Liversedge, Carlton Town host Sutton Town and Hallam entertain Armthorpe Welfare.

Basement side Shirebrook Town go to mid-table Long Eaton United as they try to win their first match in fourteen and get off the bottom of the Premier Division.

And, Arnold Town are at home to Selby Town to complete the top flight action.

In Division One, the match of the day pits fourth against second.

Nostell Miners Welfare, whose form has dipped recently, host South Normanton Athletic who are chasing their tenth successive victory and sixth consecutive clean sheet.

Both sides are chasing top side Parkgate who are six points clear and are also looking to take their winning run into double figures at Lincoln Moorlands.

But, their hosts, who are fifth, will be after the three points to keep themselves within the promotion-hunting pack.

Also in that pack are third-placed Winterton Rangers who will fancy their chances at home to bottom three side Teversal, even though the Tevie Boys will be doing their utmost to turn around their form.

The side below Teversal, Yorkshire Amateur, have a free Saturday whilst Rossington Main, who are nine points adrift at the bottom of the table, travel to Dinnington Town who are eleventh.

Sixth-placed Worsbrough Bridge are at home to Borrowash Victoria whilst Gedling Town travel to AFC Emley.

And, there are mid-table clashes as Staveley Miners Welfare entertain Hall Road Rangers and Pontefract Collieries go to Tadcaster Albion.
