NCEL Weekend Preview

29th December, 2006

For the second weekend running, it is top against bottom in the NCEL Premier Division.

This time, it is the basement side, Shirebrook Town, who have home advantage over runaway leaders Sheffield.

And, although Sheffield won 2-0 in the reverse fixture last Saturday, Shirebrook performed well in that game and also picked up a battling point at local rivals Glapwell on Boxing Day to show Sheffield are not guaranteed to pick up their eighth successive victory.

Those keen to see an upset will be the chasing pack of four sides who want the gap at the top closed back down to single figures.

Second placed Retford United look to maintain their unbeaten home record as they entertain Carlton Town, who are in seventh, at Cannon Park whilst Mickleover Sports go to Glasshoughton Welfare.

Meanwhile, Maltby Main who are fifth at the start of play, go to struggling Armthorpe Welfare.

At the other end of the table, next-to-bottom Brodsworth Welfare entertain Eccleshill United whilst the side just above them, Thackley, travel to North Nottinghamshire to face Sutton Town.

Thirteenth-placed Pickering Town have the furthest to travel as they go to top six outfit Glapwell keen to avenge a 2-1 defeat on their own patch seven days earlier.

There are also long trips for Arnold Town and Long Eaton United who go to Garforth Town and Selby Town, respectively.

Meanwhile, in Division One, leaders Parkgate will remain at the top of the table going into 2007 should they pick up at least a point at thirteenth-placed Teversal.

Nostell Miners Welfare, in second, are also away from home as they go to the next-to-bottom side Yorkshire Amateur.

Winterton Rangers, who are third, are at home to Dinnington Town hoping to keep the pressure on the top two by claiming their eight victory out of eight on their own patch.

South Normanton Athletic will be looking to cement their top four position with victory at home to Hall Road Rangers in eighth.

Basement outfit Rossington Main entertain Worsbrough Bridge whilst Lincoln Moorlands go to Borrowash Victoria, Staveley Miners Welfare travel to Gedling Town in a top seven clash, and AFC Emley are at home to Pontefract Collieries.
