NCEL Weekend Preview
23rd November, 2006
After two weeks where the focus has been mostly on cup competitions, the league programme kicks in again with a full fixture list this weekend.
In the Premier Division, it is second against fourth in what is undoubtedly the most intriguing match of the day.
Sheffield host Retford United at the Bright Finance Stadium as two of the top three attacking sides come face to face.
The hosts could go top with victory but Retford will be looking to close the gap by extending their unbeaten run to eight matches.
The two other sides in top four face teams struggling at the wrong end of the table as leaders Maltby Main entertain seventeenth-place Glasshoughton Welfare whilst Selby Town go to bottom side Shirebrook Town.
Shirebrook will also be looking for a favour from one of their local rivals as Sutton Town host the team just about the Langwith Road outfit, Brodsworth Welfare.
Two other fascinating ties see fifth-place Mickleover Sports go to the side two spots below them, Pickering Town, whilst Liversedge, currently in between those two teams, go to Carlton who are in ninth.
There is a big battle in the relegation tussle as eighteenth-placed Thackley entertain Armthorpe Welfare who are sixteenth.
And, in the other three games, Arnold Town host Hallam, Garforth Town travel to Eccleshill United and it is an all-Derbyshire clash between Long Eaton United and Glapwell at Grange Park.
Meanwhile, in Division One, the game of the afternoon is without doubt at the Welfare Ground where it is third against first as Nostell Miners Welfare entertain leaders Winterton Rangers.
There is only a one point difference between the two sides although Rangers have played five games less than their hosts.
Second-placed Parkgate are the team to miss out on a game this weekend so it gives Gedling Town a chance to close the gap on the top three.
But, they go to a Borrowash Victoria side determined to change their fortunes and move out of the bottom two.
Staveley Miners Welfare will also be looking to rein in the leading trio in the division by claiming all three points at home to Teversal.
Meanwhile, at the foot of the table, basement side Rossington Main travel to Hall Road Rangers needing their first win in ten matches.
AFC Emley, who like Borrowash and Rossington are stuck on seven points, entertain Dinnington Town.
South Normanton Athletic will be aiming for a top-five spot at home to Yorkshire Amateur whilst, in two mid-table clashes, Lincoln Moorlands host Pontefract Collieries and Worsbrough Bridge entertain Tadcaster Albion.
