NCEL Midweek Preview

7th November, 2006

There is a big all-NCEL local derby in the County Cups whilst the lead could change hands in NCEL Division One this midweek.

Hallam and Sheffield lock horns at Sandygate in the Second Round of the Sheffield and Hallamshire Senior Cup on Wednesday night.

That is one of eight games being played in the competition, all of which involve at least one NCEL club.

AFC Emley have the trickiest of the Wednesday ties at home to UniBond Premier outfit Frickley Athletic.

Dinnington Town host Frecheville CA and Nostell Miners Welfare go to Penistone Church.

The other four ties are being played on Tuesday night with Brodsworth Welfare entertaining the highest-placed team in the competition, Worksop Town from the Conference North, at the Welfare Ground.

There are also home games for Parkgate and Worsbrough Bridge and, on paper, they are a little easier against Central Midlands side Harworth Colliery Institute and the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior League team Mexborough Main Street, respectively.

Rossington Main, meanwhile, go to Unibond Premier side Stocksbridge Park Steels.

All are playing for a place in the last eight of the competition.

There is also one tie in the First Round of the West Riding County Cup as Glasshoughton Welfare entertain Unibond outfit Ossett Albion on Tuesday evening.

There are three Premier Division matches, two of which take place on Tuesday.

Ninth-placed Carlton Town hope to continue their climb up the table by claiming their fourth victory in a row at home to Long Eaton United.

But, their visitors, who are thirteenth, will be looking to build on Saturday's win at Hallam.

Retford United will claim a top four spot should they win at Garforth Town but the home side will be eyeing a move into the top half of the table with all three points.

On Wednesday, Liversedge will move to within a point of leaders Maltby Main should they come away from Mickleover Sports with the victory.

And, there is only one Division One game, but it could have a huge bearing on the top of the table as unbeaten Winterton Rangers take on Borrowash Victoria.

Rangers will take over at the helm from Parkgate if things go their way.

But, Borrowash, despite being at the wrong end of the table, will go into the game with renewed confidence after Saturday's vital win against fellow strugglers Rossington Main.
