NCEL Saturday Preview
20th October, 2006
For the first time since the opening day of the season, there is a full league programme this Saturday in the NCEL.
New Premier Division leaders Pickering Town have a home tie against mid-table Eccleshill United as they look to hold on to top spot.
But, the side they replaced in midweek, Maltby Main, will be hoping to pick up maximum points and keep the pressure on as they host Carlton Town who are down in sixteenth.
In another tie that pits top with bottom, third placed Selby Town travel to Armthorpe Welfare who are three off the foot of the table.
And, Hallam, who are fourth, will be hoping to hang on to the coat tails of those above them with a home clash to next-to-bottom Thackley who have yet to pick up their first win of the season.
Shirebrook Town, the side propping up the rest of the division, go to Liversedge whilst the only game that pits two top eight teams together sees Retford United travel to Mickleover Sports.
The most intriguing tie of the day, meanwhile, must come at Hall Corner and the local derby between Glapwell and Sutton Town.
This important clash in the league calendar has been made even spicier with the fact that both managers and several players swapped sides during the summer and will surely be keen to put one over their former clubs.
Sheffield travel to Glasshoughton Welfare, Garforth Town host Brodsworth Welfare in a bottom six clash and it's a mid-table battle at Gedling Road as Arnold Town entertain Long Eaton United.
Meanwhile, the top of Division One is becoming ever more unpredictable with only one point separating the top five sides.
Currently at the helm are Worsbrough Bridge but they should be knocked off the summit as they have no game this weekend.
It leaves the four sides below them, all on eighteen points, to fight for who replaces them.
Fourth-placed Nostell Miners Welfare have, on paper, the easier tie as they host next-to-bottom AFC Emley in a battle of two promoted sides.
Gedling Town are also at home against Pontefract Collieries whilst the two sides just below Worsbrough - Parkgate and Winterton Rangers - are both on their travels.
Parkgate travel south to Derbyshire to face Staveley Miners Welfare.
And, Winterton also go to that county looking for their thirteenth consecutive league win in a run that stretches back into last season.
They're at South Normanton Athletic.
It's also tight at the foot of the table with the bottom three sides all locked on four points.
The team with the worst goal difference, Yorkshire Amateur, will leapfrog over fourteenth-placed Rossington Main with a win at Bracken Edge.
And, Borrowash Victoria could also go above their visitors with a convincing win over Teversal.
In the final two matches, Tadcaster Albion travel to Hall Road Rangers whilst Lincoln Moorlands are at home to Dinnington Town.
