NCEL Saturday Match Preview
6th October, 2006
Seventeen NCEL clubs continue on the FA Vase trail this weekend as the competition reaches the First Round Proper stage.
There is one all-NCEL tie and it's a local derby with Hall Road Rangers at home to Winterton Rangers.
The two sides have already met in Division One at Dene Park. Winterton won 2-1 in early September and Hall Road will be hoping that history does not repeat itself.
Every other of our teams face clubs from other Leagues with nine enjoying home advantage.
Three Premier Division sides have, on paper, the easiest task as they host sides two levels below them in the Non-League Pyramid.
Glasshoughton Welfare welcome Northern Alliance side Easington Colliery to Leeds Road, Retford United entertain Bolehall Swifts from the Midland Football Combination and Sutton Town are at home to West Midlands Premier outfit Brierly & Hagley who come from close to Kidderminster.
Borrowash Victoria also have a lower-ranked team coming to their patch, Castle Vale, also a Midland Combination outfit, are the visitors to the Robinson Construction Bowl.
And Liversedge will be favourites at home to Northern League side Norton & Stockton Ancients.
Two teams hoping to upset the odds are South Normanton Athletic who are at home to Loughborough Dynamo from the Midland Alliance and Worsbrough Bridge who host Colne from the North West Counties League.
The other home ties involve teams at the same rung of the Pyramid - Eccleshill United entertain Newcastle Blue Star from the Northern League, whilst Garforth Town also face North West Counties opponents, Silsden.
The dubious honour for the most difficult away trip for an NCEL side must fall to Dinnington Town who go to high flying North West Counties side Congleton Town.
Parkgate also go to higher ranked opposition as they visit Congleton's League rivals, Trafford.
The final four away tussles are tight affairs with Mickleover Sports and Carlton Town going to Midland Alliance sides Barwell and Friar Lane & Epworth, respectively.
Sheffield are another side that face North West Counties opposition as they go to Nelson and Lincoln Moorlands travel to Ridgeons League outfit Thetford Town.
There is a reduced League fixture list due to the extensive FA Vase action, with five games in the Premier Division and four in Division One.
In the top flight, the main focus is on the foot of the table with all five of the bottom teams in action.
Thackley will be looking to move away from last place as they go to Arnold Town, a team also struggling in seventeenth.
Nineteenth-placed Shirebrook Town go to Hallam, the side just above them Brodsworth Welfare are also away as they make the trip to Pickering Town.
And, Armthorpe Welfare have the toughest task at table-toppers Maltby Main who will be looking to open up a gap at the helm of the Premier Division.
The final game sees fourteenth-placed Glapwell entertain Selby Town who are seventh but could go top if they win and Maltby fail to pick up three points.
The match of the day in Division One pits fifth-placed Staveley Miners Welfare at home to the side just above them, Nostell Miners Welfare.
And the two sides below them also face each other with Gedling Town at home to Tadcaster Albion.
Yorkshire Amateur know a win is vital at home to Teversal to stop them being cut further adrift at the foot of the Division One table.
And there's a clash of two bottom five sides at the Welfare Ground where Rossington Main entertain Pontefract Collieries.
