NCEL Midweek Match Preview

2nd October, 2006

Attention turns mainly to knockout action in midweek as matches from all three NCEL Cup competitions take place.

The League Cup gets underway with three First Round ties on Tuesday, each one an all-Division One clash.

Rossington Main host Hall Road Rangers at the Welfare Ground with the winner at home to the victor in another match that night, South Normanton Athletic versus third-placed Worsbrough Bridge at Lees Lane.

Staveley Miners Welfare hope to take the good start to their league season into their home tie with struggling AFC Emley.

The prize will be a trip to Premier Division outfit Glasshoughton Welfare in November.

The Presidents Cup reaches the Quarter-Final stage with three encounters this week.

There is an all-Premier clash at the Flaxley Road Ground on Wednesday with home side Selby Town slim favourites against Carlton Town who have had a steady start to their first campaign in the top flight.

The other two tussles see Division One clubs facing Premier Division opposition at home.

Gedling Town and Lincoln Moorlands will hope that home advantage can contribute to an upset against high-flyers Sheffield and Retford United, respectively.

Meanwhile, we are also into the last eight of the Wilkinson Sword Trophy.

The Division One pacesetters Parkgate travel to Dinnington Town on Wednesday whilst Teversal host Pontefract Collieries at Carnarvon Street, twenty-four hours earlier.

There are four rescheduled Premier Division matches with Mickleover Sports hoping to extend their lead at the top of the table to four points.

They travel to tenth-placed Eccleshill United on Tuesday having reached the summit with a win at Long Eaton United on Saturday that stretched their unbeaten run to seven matches.

Also that night, Pickering Town and Arnold Town will both be looking to kick-start their league seasons in their encounter at Mill Lane.

On Wednesday, Shirebrook Town hope to build on their first win at the weekend but it will be a tough home clash with seventh-placed Maltby Main who have lost only one of their last six.

Completing the fixture list is Hallam at home to Brodsworth Welfare which is already a major clash as both sides look for the win that will take them out of the bottom six.
