NCEL Match Review #9
7th September, 2008
Long Eaton United's dramatic 4-2 win at Birstall United meant they were one of three sides to progress in the FA Vase in a weather-affected Saturday programme.
They were 2-1 down at the Leicestershire Senior League side with twenty minutes remaining before Alex Steadman struck twice and Lee Sutton added the fourth on 85 to make sure of the victory.
The other two teams to taste success in the First Qualifying Round were Lincoln Moorlands Railway and Teversal who both recorded home victories.
Railway needed extra-time but Dominic Jennings' 112th-minute goal saw them go through at the expense of Sleaford Town.
It was bit more straightforward for Teversal who beat Nuneaton Griff 3-0 with a Jamie Smith brace and a third from Andy Woodcock.
Shirebrook Town were unfortunate at home to Castle Vale as the visitors went through with a last-minute winner, Christian Crisp grabbing his second of the afternoon for a 3-2 victory.
Pontefract Collieries had a bad afternoon losing 5-0 at Guisborough Town whilst Staveley Miners Welfare bowed out 3-0 at Oadby Town.
In the League, Premier Division leaders Liversedge were held to a 1-1 draw at Maltby Main who move up to second, three points behind.
Luke Sherman had seemingly got the win for Sedge with his 52nd minute goal but John Beggs grabbed the equaliser with nine minutes remaining.
Parkgate climb to fourth with a 4-3 win at Brodsworth Welfare.
Ryan Johnson opened the scoring for them on 24 minutes before Darren Fell and Bryan Craig gave the home side a half-time lead.
Johnson got his and Parkgate's second, Kieran Gallagher converted a penalty on 66 minutes to put them in the lead and Craig Williamson then struck ten minutes later, looking to have got Brodsworth's first point of the season.
But, Mark Caine grabbed the winner for the visitors with nine minutes left in the game.
Dinnington Town made it four wins out of four to move up to fifth after a 4-2 win at home to Hall Road Rangers.
The visitors had gone two-up through Paul Palmer before Ant Lynam, Gavin Allott, Ben Rosser and Louis Axcell turned the game round in the home side's favour.
And, Ashley Dyce's injury-time strike was the winner in a 2-1 win for Arnold Town at Armthorpe Welfare.
Only three points separate the top eleven in Division One after Saturday's three games.
Yorkshire Amateur and AFC Emley joined a glut of teams on ten points with wins at home to Hemsworth Miners Welfare and away to Brighouse Town, respectively.
The Ammers are seventh after two from Nathan Thomas saw them beat Hemsworth 3-1 whilst Andy Farrell and Antony Leech found the net for Emley's 2-1 win as they move up to eighth.
They are just ahead of Askern Villa who beat hosts Rossington Main 3-0 with goals in the last fourteen minutes from Tom McLaughlin, Lee Wilkinson and Michael Evans.
