Johnston set for third season in charge
17th June, 2015
Armthorpe Welfare have announced the new management team to guide the team through the next season of the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division.
Manager Brian Johnston, entering his third full season at the club, remains in charge and is joined by two of last year's squad, Ryan Watson and Ben Muirhead, who have committed to the roles of joint assistant player/managers.
A statement from the club said: "The three of them together combine a wealth of playing and coaching experience across numerous levels, but especially within the NCEL.
"Ryan, who knows Brian from their time together at Askern, has previously captained both Tadcaster Albion and Selby Town before a spell as player/coach at Riccall United.
"Now 32, Ryan wants to focus more on his coaching, and has stated his desire to make an impact with Armthorpe in the NCEL Premier in the coming season by trying to push on from a decent second half of the season last time around and win a trophy.
"Ben has played in the NCEL Premier for a few years now with Armthorpe and Retford United but, prior to this, he can credit more than 160 professional league games to his name with his previous clubs, Manchester United, Doncaster Rovers, Bradford City and Rochdale.
"During this time, Ben also represented England from Under 15s to Under 20s and once played against an Argentinian side at Wembley that included now world superstars Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano.
"Ben can also count Alfreton Town, Farsley Celtic, Kings Lynn, Harrogate Town and Buxton amongst his previous clubs and has talked of his desire to use and pass on all this playing experience to younger players to help them develop, which in turn will improve the quality available at Armthorpe."
