Norbury takes reins at Glasshoughton

6th June, 2015

Glasshoughton Welfare have appointed ex-Football League player Mick Norbury as team manager for the 2015/16 season as they look to bounce back from relegation to Toolstation NCEL Division One.

Norbury was involved in full-time professional football from the age of 20 until injury forced him in to semi-retirement and a step back down into the semi-professional or amateur game.

On retirement from playing, he was appointed joint manager at Goole AFC where he guided the club to the lifting of the West Riding County Cup against higher-placed teams and finished just outside the league play-offs.

A spell at Harrogate Railway where he worked with an extremely challenging budget meant he had to focus on the local youth talent and, on his leaving the club, there were six of the U18s players who had been nurtured through to the first team.

After a time as scout for Frickley Athletic, Norbury returned to management at Maltby Main where he lifted the club from second bottom to seventh position in a very competitive NCEL Premier Division, eventually parting company with the South Yorkshire club in April feeling that he could take them no further.

A club spokesperson said: "Mick believes that his main attributes to offer are a great knowledge of the tactics of the game from which he can input ideas on the way football should be played, both in attack and defence, and his ability to attract quality players.

"He believes in running the club in a friendly atmosphere with the manager, committee and players being honest, trustworthy and loyal to each other both on and off the field."
