AFC Emley captain Paul Sykes played his 900th career game on Tuesday night when the Toolstation NCEL Division One leaders travelled to Yorkshire Amateur.

The former Sheffield Wednesday centre-back, whose non-league CV includes the likes of Glasshoughton Welfare, Worksop Town and Stalybridge Celtic, was presented with a trophy by his opponents before the game in recognition of the milestone.

However, on the pitch, things did not go to plan for the 37-year-old as Emley were beaten 3-2 but they stay top of the table as second-placed Clipstone's match at Hallam was abandoned due to fog with the home side 3-0 up.

Sykes is the second Emley player to reach 900 games after Mark Wilson also reached that target in May 2013.
