Bridlington Town ended the Toolstation NCEL season on a high as they lifted the East Riding Senior Cup at Hull City's KC Stadium on Monday night. The Seasiders were the favourites going into the final against Humber Premier League side Hull United but they had to fight for the trophy having gone behind twice and being reduced to ten men during the second half to eventually prevail 4-2.
The tussle was a stalemate in front of 1,109 spectators until the 37th minute when Brett Agnew put United ahead but Craig Hogg restored parity in first half stoppage time.
The game then came to life in the second period as the underdogs went ahead again through Shane Hill on 48 minutes but Hogg was on hand once more to quickly restore parity.
Bridlington had substitute Danny Smith sent off just seconds after he had been introduced but they became the stronger of the two sides as Hogg completed his hat-trick for his eighteenth of the season for the club to put the Seasiders ahead for the first time.
Chris Adams then made sure of the victory with his side's fourth with a quarter-of-an-hour remaining.
For Bridlington, it was the first time they had lifted the trophy since 2012 although they were beaten finalists last year whilst for the NCEL it was a case of fifth time lucky this season in County Cup finals after
Clipstone,
Garforth Town,
Louth Town and
Nostell Miners Welfare had been beaten in their respective finals.
