Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2014/15 #73
4th May, 2015
Congratulations to Handsworth Parramore who lifted the League Cup as the Toolstation NCEL season came to a dramatic end on Monday.
It looked as though Cleethorpes Town were going to be awarded the trophy as they went into the last six minutes with a 3-1 lead at Staveley Miners Welfare's Inkersall Road ground.
Brody Robertson had struck all three, taking him through the forty goal barrier for the season in all competitions, whilst Sam Smith had scored for Parramore.
But, the game was turned on its head when Kieran Wells struck twice, once on 84 minutes, then in stoppage time to draw the sides level and, when the Amber Parras were then awarded a spot kick, Smith was the calmest person in the ground as he slotted home the penalty to give his side a 4-3 victory.
Elsewhere, there was only one outstanding issue in the final round of league matches that took place on Saturday - who would finish runners-up in the Premier Division.
Both of the sides trying to claim that spot met at the i2i Stadium and it was Worksop Town who prevailed despite going behind to hosts Tadcaster Albion.
Callum Ward slotted home a spot kick for the Brewers on 32 minutes but an injury-time penalty from Connor Sellars brought the scores level and Sellars netted his and the Tigers' second early in the second period to ensure runners-up spot for Mark Shaw's men.
Worksop finish four points behind champions Shaw Lane Aquaforce who ended their campaign with a 9-0 home victory over bottom side, Glasshoughton Welfare, Shane Kelsey with a brace whilst there were goals for Lee Morris, Danny Frost, James Cotterill, Steven Istead, Chris White and James Eyles with Glasshoughton's Josh Prudhoe also putting through his own net.
Fourth-placed Cleethorpes Town were 3-0 winners at Staveley Miners Welfare with Louis Grant, Nick Goodwin and Brody Robertson getting on the scoresheet.
Barton Town Old Boys end the campaign in fifth, going above Heanor Town who they beat 5-2 at the Euronics Ground, Scott Phillips netting a hat-trick for the Swans in the first half.
And, Athersley Recreation moved up one place to thirteenth with a 3-1 home victory over Liversedge.
Division One champions Clipstone lifted the trophy after their game at home to Shirebrook Town but the visitors took the points, Liam Morris and Matt Sykes striking towards the end of the first period in a 2-0 win that sees the Derbyshire side end in the top four.
Nicholas Guest and Sam Colbear scored for third-placed Hemsworth Miners Welfare as they won 2-0 at Winterton Rangers whilst AFC Emley dropped to fifth after a 1-1 home draw with Hallam in what was a disappointing final few weeks for them after they had spent most of the campaign in contention for promotion.
Louth Town and AFC Mansfield conclude the season in sixth and seventh, respectively, Louth winning 2-1 at home to Dronfield Town and the Bulls beating visitors Rossington Main, Grant Allott with two of their goals.
Joel Hughes netted twice in Yorkshire Amateur's 3-0 home win over Teversal, Hall Road Rangers prevailed 2-1 at Knaresborough Town and it was a 2-2 draw between Bottesford Town and Selby Town.
And, Friday night saw Nostell Miners Welfare in the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup Final at Rotherham United's New York Stadium but they were beaten 4-1 by Evo-Stik League side Frickley Athletic, Rob Bordman getting their goal.
There remains only one more match to complete the season for all of our clubs as Bridlington Town take on Hull United in the East Riding Senior Cup Final which takes place at Hull City's KC Stadium on Monday 11th May, ko 7pm.
