Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2014/15 #69
19th April, 2015
Congratulations to Pontefract Collieries whose 7-0 win at Lincoln Moorlands Railway secured them promotion to the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division on Saturday.
The West Yorkshire club return to the top flight for the first time since 1999 as they broke through the ninety point barrier courtesy of an Aaron Moxam brace added to by goals from Mark Whitehouse, Luke Danville, Matthew Marsden, Josh Corbett and Craig Rouse.
The result, however, leaves Moorlands almost certainly set to finish in a relegation position as they remain three points away from safety with only one game left to play and a vastly inferior goal difference to Teversal who lost 3-0 at Louth Town.
Clipstone are only two points away from joining Pontefract in the Premier Division and are the only side who can deny the Colls the title after their 5-1 home victory over Hall Road Rangers.
Josh Gibson, Callum Mawby and Luke Thomas gave the Cobras a three goal lead by the interval before Adam Foster pulled one back for the visitors and the victory was assured by late strikes from Gibson and Jamie Brown.
The only side who can catch Clipstone are fourth-placed Hemsworth Miners Welfare who netted twice on the hour mark through Dominic Blair and Sam Colbear to beat visitors Eccleshill United, 2-1, whilst AFC Emley are third but out of the promotion frame after their 2-1 loss at home to Selby Town.
They had taken the lead on sixteen minutes through a Max Leonard penalty but goals in the last quarter of the game for the Robins from Tom Chamberlain and Jamie Forrester means they can no longer catch the top two.
Elsewhere in Division One, there were wins on their travels for Hallam and Shirebrook Town who beat Dronfield Town, 2-1, and bottom side Grimsby Borough, 7-1, respectively.
And there were home victories for AFC Mansfield who beat Penistone Church, 2-0, Bottesford Town who triumphed by a single goal against Winterton Rangers, Yorkshire Amateur who also won 1-0 against Worsbrough Bridge Athletic and Knaresborough Town who prevailed 2-1 over Rossington Main.
In the Premier Division, the thrilling chase for the title took another amazing twist as both of the top two sides dropped points rekindling the hopes of the third- and fourth-placed teams.
Leaders Shaw Lane Aquaforce drew 0-0 for the second successive game, this time at Barton Town Old Boys but their gap over nearest rivals Worksop Town grew to three points with a match in hand after the Tigers went down 1-0 at Handsworth Parramore, Alex Rippon with the vital strike on 28 minutes.
Tadcaster Albion won 4-1 at Retford United to move them to within four points of the top in third spot, Josh Greening with a couple of goals for the Brewers, and Cleethorpes Town are now six points away from the summit in fourth after their 2-1 victory at Maltby Main.
A Sam Jones hat-trick helped Heanor Town to an 8-0 victory at basement side Glasshoughton Welfare whilst Bridlington Town also picked up an away win, two early goals from Craig Hogg helping them to a 3-0 scoreline at Nostell Miners Welfare.
A late Mike Garrod penalty saw Thackley win 1-0 at home to Parkgate whilst Athersley Recreation beat visitors Garforth Town, 2-1.
And, there were draws in the other two Premier Division games as there were no goals in Staveley Miners Welfare's home clash with Liversedge and Armthorpe Welfare drew 1-1 at Pickering Town.
