Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2014/15 #66

9th April, 2015

Glasshoughton Welfare's 5-0 home defeat to Nostell Miners Welfare in midweek means that they will finish the season in the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division relegation zone.

Rob Bordman and Stephen Wales struck late in the first half to give the visitors a two-goal advantage ahead of the interval, Jack Fisher and Matt Jackson doubled their lead by the 74th minute and Bordman got his second of the evening to complete the scoring just before the game entered stoppage time.

It means Glasshoughton are confirmed to end in the bottom two as they are now eighteen points from safety with five games to play.

And, Retford United are all-but set to join them after their 1-0 loss at home to Pickering Town.

Ryan Cooper's 56th minute goal means the Badgers need to win all four of their remaining matches to have any chance of finishing outside of the drop zone.

At the top end of the table, Shaw Lane Aquaforce battled to their sixth successive victory to move to within two points of leaders Worksop Town with two games in hand.

Tawanda Rupere put visitors Garforth Town in front on 22 minutes and, although Sam Denton levelled for the hosts, Luke Mangham restored the Miners' lead by half-time.

A Danny Frost double in the second period, though, maintained Aquaforce's title charge and they are now favourites to lift the crown although Worksop and Cleethorpes Town will be amongst those fighting hard to deny them.

Tadcaster Albion kept themselves in with a shout as well with a 5-0 home victory over Armthorpe Welfare, two goals from David Brown helping the Brewers to the three points which sees them seven behind Worksop with six games to play.

Meanwhile, Albion Sports climbed into tenth as Daniel Facey's first-half strike earned them a 1-0 win at home to Maltby Main who played the last half-hour with ten men after Daniel Smith's dismissal.

Clipstone are up into second in Division One, two points behind leaders Pontefract Collieries with a game in hand, after Jamie Smith, Callum Mawby and Matty Ord all struck in the first-half to win 3-0 at Hall Road Rangers.

The Cobras go above AFC Emley who lost 2-1 at Louth Town, Jamie Coulson with both of the home side's goals whilst Max Leonard netted for the visitors.

Grimsby Borough, who before the weekend had only won one league game all season, have now won two on the trot after a 5-2 home victory over Worsbrough Bridge Athletic.

It means the bottom side are not going out without a fight but they still need at least thirteen points from their last six games to have a chance of ending the season out of the drop zone.

Michael Blythen's brace helped Hallam to a 3-1 home win over Hemsworth Miners Welfare and Dronfield Town drew 1-1 with visitors Knaresborough Town whilst Rossington Main also drew 1-1 at Worsbrough Bridge Athletic on Thursday, the home side's second game of midweek.

And, AFC Mansfield will be at home to Handsworth Parramore in the Semi-Finals of the League Cup after winning 1-0 at Premier Division side Staveley Miners Welfare.

Craig Mitchell's 49th minute goal meant the Bulls sprung a surprise against their higher-ranked hosts.
