Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2014/15 #42

11th January, 2015

With the top two sides in both Toolstation NCEL divisions without a game, Saturday gave an ideal chance for the chasing packs to keep the pressure on in the race for the Premier Division and Division One titles.

Tadcaster Albion and Shaw Lane Aquaforce had a free weekend which was taken full advantage of by Cleethorpes Town and Worksop Town.

Cleethorpes were 3-1 winners at home to Liversedge to move above Aquaforce into second spot, five points behind Tadcaster, Brody Robertson getting two of their goals whilst Marc Cooper also got on the scoresheet and Eli Hey netted for the visitors.

Worksop are up into fourth after an 8-1 home victory over struggling Armthorpe Welfare, Mitch Husbands with a hat-trick for the Tigers on what was a comfortable afternoon for Mark Shaw's side who are now eight points off the top with two games in hand.

Staveley Miners Welfare drop to fifth despite rescuing a point with a late Jahmal Smith strike in a 1-1 draw at Bridlington Town who have climbed into sixth, Ombeni Ruhanduka with their goal just past the hour mark.

Handsworth Parramore are one point behind the Seasiders in seventh after Bruno Holden's opener was added to by a late Sam Smith penalty and a Steve Woolley strike in a 3-0 victory at next-to-bottom Glasshoughton Welfare.

All four sides at the foot of the table tasted defeat in what was another disappointing weekend for those trying to fight off relegation.

As well as the losses for Armthorpe and Glasshoughton, Nostell Miners Welfare were beaten 4-1 at home by Maltby Main, Brian Cusworth with a hat-trick for the visitors, and Retford United also suffered a loss on their own patch, 2-1 to Athersley Recreation whose late winner came from Jack Briscoe.

Parkgate withstood a late Garforth Town comeback to win 3-2 at Green Lane whilst Billy Logan's sixth minute goal was enough for Pickering Town at home to Heanor Town.

There was one game called off in the Premier Division, Barton Town Old Boys' trip to Thackley called off due to a waterlogged pitch whilst the leading two sides in Division One also had their matches postponed.

AFC Emley's home clash with Grimsby Borough was cancelled due to safety concerns after high winds had caused floodlight damage and Clipstone's trip to Dronfield Town fell victim to a waterlogged pitch.

Hemsworth Miners Welfare and Pontefract Collieries both won to climb above Clipstone into second and third, respectively, and within touching distance of the summit.

Dominic Blair struck with eight minutes remaining to grab Hemsworth a 2-1 win at Teversal whilst a brace each for Mark Whitehouse and Craig Rouse helped to ensure a 6-2 victory for Pontefract at Winterton Rangers.

Liam Morris and Jamie York netted in a 2-0 home win for Shirebrook Town over Penistone Church and Julian Watts' side are now fifth, just ahead of Yorkshire Amateur who beat visitors Bottesford Town, 3-1, Joel Hughes, Danny Freeman and Craig Heard with their goals.

Jamie Coulson struck late on to earn Louth Town a 2-1 home victory over Eccleshill United to move them up into seventh spot.

Bradley Walker netted three for Knaresborough Town in their 5-0 win at Hallam whilst AFC Mansfield were also successful on their travels, Craig Mitchell scoring two in their 4-1 triumph over Selby Town.

Worsbrough Bridge Athletic won 3-0 at home to Lincoln Moorlands Railway and there were no goals in the clash between Hall Road Rangers and Rossington Main at the John Moore Security Stadium.
