Kennedy rules out becoming permanent boss

30th April, 2017

Stand-in Worksop Town manager Jon Kennedy has ruled out taking the role on a permanent basis, meaning the Tigers will need to start the search for a new backroom team ahead of the 2017/18 Toolstation NCEL Premier Division season.

Speaking after the current campaign came to a close with a 2-0 home defeat to Thackley, he told the club's website: "I've been disappointed recently to be honest, I feel that me and [assistant] Craig [Denton] have been underappreciated in what has been a terribly difficult situation and I am not considering the job at the moment."

The loss meant that Worksop ended the current campaign in thirteenth position, having picked up just two points from their final seven matches.

A statement from the Tigers' Management Group said: "I am very disappointed that Jon and Craig have decided not to put their names forward to carry on with a job they have handled perfectly in very difficult circumstances, and dismayed that their decision has been driven by a precipitative reaction on the part of some members of the fan base because matches were not won on limited resources.

"Jon stepped forward without hesitation when needed and Craig joined him. Their attitude has been exemplary. They genuinely, and without any prompting, put their own financial positions second to the needs of the team budget and the club. Refreshing!

"The club is now faced with the task of recruiting a new management team for next season.

"Let me say from the outset that this will be undertaken in an organised and structured way. There will be no knee-jerk appointments. The process will take as long as it takes. I appreciate supporters will want to know what, when, who, but we will not be rushed or pestered."
