Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2016/17 #49

29th January, 2017

Cleethorpes Town are through to the Quarter-Finals of the Buildbase FA Vase for the first time after a dramatic victory for the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division leaders on Saturday.

Matthew Coleman popped up in second half stoppage time to grab the winner as they beat Hallmark Security League visitors Atherton Collieries, 3-2, in front of a crowd of 588 at the Bradley Football Development Centre.

It capped a remarkable comeback for the Owls who had to come from two goals down with Liam Davis striking each side of the interval to bring them back level.

They now go into Monday's draw to see who they will face in the last eight in February.

Bridlington Town, who started the day in second spot in the Premier Division, could not close the gap on Cleethorpes at the top of the table as they went down to a 3-1 loss at Athersley Recreation despite taking the lead on fourteen minutes through an Andrew Norfolk spot kick.

Tom Copping restored parity at the end of the first half and then Lee Garside struck twice in the second period, the first a penalty, to move Rec up into eighth spot whilst the Seasiders drop to third.

Pickering Town leapfrog Bridlington into second after they won 5-0 at home to bottom three side Parkgate, Ryan Cooper's brace added to by goals from Joseph Danby, Ryan Blott and Joe Dale, and the Pikes are now eight points off the summit.

Fourth-placed Thackley, meanwhile, saw their title aspirations take a blow as they were beaten 2-1 at home by Bottesford Town, Paul Grimes with what proved to be the winner for the visitors with sixteen minutes remaining.

Two goals from Joe Walton helped Liversedge to a 3-1 win at Rainworth Miners Welfare to lift his side up into sixth position, climbing above Albion Sports who went down 4-3 at Worksop Town where two late goals from Kyle Jordan snatched the victory for the Tigers.

The two bottom teams met at the Easy Buy Ground and the spoils were shared leaving hosts Barton Town Old Boys a point behind Retford United after they had taken the lead through Thomas Waudby on 50 minutes and the visitors equalised courtesy of Cameron Dear.

Armthorpe Welfare remain just outside of the drop zone as they lost 4-1 at Garforth Town, Adam Turner with a hat-trick for the Miners, whilst there were also three goals for Nicholas Guest as Hemsworth Miners Welfare won 5-2 at home to Clipstone.

And, there was a 2-1 home victory for AFC Mansfield over Maltby Main with Matthew Plummer's injury time winner taking the points for the Bulls.

There was a twist in the race for the Division One title as leaders AFC Emley were beaten 4-2 at Pontefract Collieries who move up into second spot thanks to a hat-trick from Jordan Turner and a Christopher Jackson goal.

Liam Schofield and Samuel Jerome netted for Emley who have seen their lead at the top cut to five points having played two games more than the Colls and Penistone Church who are third.

Hall Road Rangers are a further point behind in fourth with three matches in hand of the leaders after their 5-0 home victory over next-to-bottom Westella & Willerby, Christopher Spinks, Ashley Dexter, Jamie Reeson, Sam Belcher and Joshua Batty with their goals.

Sixth placed Hallam are now nine points off the top five as they went down 3-0 at Rossington Main, Cameron Johnson's early strike added to in the second half by Connor Williamson and Jonathan Fusco.

Campion and Knaresborough Town kept up their chase for the play-off spot held by the Sandygate side with Campion climbing to seventh following a 4-2 win at home over Winterton Rangers as Eli Hey struck twice for the hosts.

Knaresborough, meanwhile, drew 1-1 at home to Selby Town to keep an eight point gap between themselves and the Robins who are a place behind in ninth, Jason Crisp scoring a late equaliser for the visitors.

Bottom side Nostell Miners Welfare were beaten 4-2 at Teversal, Joshua Radford's hat-trick helping the Carnarvon Street side to a win that sees them up into fifteenth whilst Worsbrough Bridge Athletic remain just above the trapdoor after they lost 2-1 at home to Shirebrook Town.

Elsewhere, Eccleshill United won 3-1 at Brigg Town, two goals from Blake Owen helped Dronfield Town to a 4-0 victory over visitors Ollerton Town, and there was a 2-2 draw between Yorkshire Amateur and Glasshoughton Welfare at Bracken Edge.
