Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2016/17 #40
22nd December, 2016
A couple of late goals from Hemsworth Miners Welfare saw them come from behind to win 2-1 at home to second placed Thackley in the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division in midweek.
A Jack Steers own goal had put the visitors, who were looking to close the seven point gap on leaders Cleethorpes Town, ahead on seventeen minutes.
But, the hosts levelled through Dominique Blair as the game went into the last quarter-of-an-hour and Bill Law put them ahead on 86 to move them up to eighth in the table.
It was one of two league matches played in midweek that were brought forward from Boxing Day with the other being in Division One where Pontefract Collieries missed out on a chance to go to the top of the table.
They took the lead at Eccleshill United on eleven minutes with a goal from Lewis Dickenson but their hosts equalised midway through the second period thanks to Matthew Mathers.
Eccleshill strengthened their grip on twelfth spot with the point they gained whilst the Colls are now only separated from pacesetters AFC Emley by goal difference.
Meanwhile, there were West Riding County Cup Third Round exits for three of our sides who all faced higher-ranked opposition.
Harrogate Railway Athletic came closest as Christopher Fisher netted in their 2-1 home defeat to Ossett Town.
Eli Hey scored for Campion as they were beaten 4-1 at Harrogate Town and Yorkshire Amateur went down 5-1 at home to Tadcaster Albion, Carl Heard with their goal.
