Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2016/17 #32
24th November, 2016
Cleethorpes Town returned to the top of the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division whilst Bridlington Town claimed their eleventh successive league win in midweek.
A number of games were called off due to wet weather but six matches went ahead, three in each division.
A Brody Robertston strike seven minutes from time saw Cleethorpes win 2-1 at Handsworth Parramore after their first half opener from Andrew Taylor had been cancelled out by Connor Smythe.
Bridlington climb to third, eight points off the summit, as Jordan Harrison netted at the end of the first period and Brett Agnew made sure of the victory twelve minutes from time as they beat hosts AFC Mansfield, 2-0.
It is an impressive run by the Seasiders but they still have a way to go to take the NCEL record for wins in a row, currently held by Guiseley who enjoyed twenty consecutive victories in the 1990/91 season.
Bridlington go above Albion Sports who were held to a dramatic 4-4 draw at home by Harrogate Railway Athletic.
Daniel Facey put the hosts ahead on six minutes, Chris Ovington quickly equalised but Devonte Morton restored the Lions' advantage before David Brown got on the scoresheet to make it 2-2 midway through the opening half.
Omar Habeeb had Sports in front for a third time early in the second period but Railway levelled once again through Stephen Bromley and Brown's penalty put the away side ahead before Facey's second of the night made sure the spoils were shared.
In Division One, leaders Penistone Church drew 1-1 at home with Knaresborough Town to move three points clear, Colin Heath's 58th minute strike restoring parity for the visitors after Dale Kelly's first half goal.
AFC Emley are up to fourth after they won 2-1 at Glasshoughton Welfare, a late Adam Hayton penalty for the home side unable to dent their joy after goals from Ashley Flynn and Liam Schofield.
And, a Christopher Spinks double ensured a 2-0 win on their travels for Hall Road Rangers at Brigg Town to move his side up into sixth spot.
