Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2016/17 #2

11th August, 2016

Three more Toolstation NCEL sides made it through to the Preliminary Round of the Emirates FA Cup with victories in replays in midweek.

A Brett Agnew hat-trick saw Bridlington Town prevail 3-1 at Silsden whilst Stephen Bromley struck twice and Chris Ovington also got on the scoresheet as Harrogate Railway Athletic won 3-0 at league rivals Albion Sports.

And, Pickering Town progressed in the most dramatic fashion in a penalty shoot-out after a 3-3 draw at home to Sunderland Ryhope CW, Ryan Blott scoring in normal time whilst, in extra time, Lewis Taylor converted a spot-kick and Matthew Turnbull netted for the Pikes.

However, there were defeats for Retford United, Nostell Miners Welfare and Shirebrook Town.

The League Cup got underway with five First Round matches on Wednesday and four Second Round games the previous night.

Winterton Rangers enjoyed the most comfortable First Round tie, a 4-1 home win over Yorkshire Amateur with Thomas Finnigan and Ben Silburn making sure of the victory in the last ten minutes.

Lewis Bingham and Joshua Bowkett scored for Ollerton Town as they picked up their first NCEL victory, 2-1 at home to Worsbrough Bridge Athletic, and Eccleshill United were 3-1 victors over visitors Westella & Willerby.

A hat-trick from Adam Hayton helped Glasshoughton Welfare to a 4-3 extra-time win at Brigg Town whilst AFC Emley won 4-3 on penalties after their home clash with Pontefract Collieries ended 2-2 after 120 minutes.

The Second Round ties saw Worksop Town win 4-0 at Dronfield Town, Adam Scott with two of the Tigers' goals, and Handsworth Parramore defeated Cleethorpes Town by the same scoreline at the Windsor Foodservice Stadium.

Casey Stewart and Jacob Rose struck in extra-time as Garforth Town defeated visitors Grimsby Borough, 2-0, and there was a 3-2 shoot-out victory for Teversal after their home match with Athersley Recreation finished 2-2 with all four goals coming in the further half-hour.

Joseph Geeson scored twice for Teversal as they upset their Premier Division opponents who had taken a two-goal lead through Kai Hancock.

The first three matches of the Premier Division season were played with wins for two promoted sides AFC Mansfield and Hemsworth Miners Welfare.

Ryan Williams, Oliver Fearon and Gary Bradshaw scored for Mansfield as they beat Liversedge, 3-2, at the Forest Town Arena whilst Nash Connolly and Del Pollock netted in the opening ten minutes as Hemsworth Miners Welfare won 2-0 at Parkgate.

Meanwhile, Daniel Clayton's winner eight minutes from time saw Thackley take three points, defeating visitors Clipstone, 2-1.

And, in a friendly, Knaresborough Town went down 4-0 at home to Evo-Stik League side Shaw Lane.
