7th August, 2016
Ten Toolstation NCEL sides booked their place in the Preliminary Round of the Emirates FA Cup at the weekend whilst new boys Campion were one of six teams to taste victory on the opening day of the Division One campaign on Saturday.
The biggest winners in the cup were AFC Mansfield who, thanks to a Ryan Williams brace following goals from Oliver Fearon and James Ghaichem, beat hosts Shepshed Dynamo, 4-0.
Handsworth Parramore and Cleethorpes Town were the other victors on their travels with Thomas Dugdale and Jon Froggatt netting for Handsworth in a 2-0 triumph at fellow NCEL side Armthorpe Welfare.
Cleethorpes defeated league rivals Rainworth Miners Welfare, 3-1, coming from behind after Aaron Moxam had given the hosts a 26th minute lead with strikes from Alexander Flett, Caine Winfarrah and Andrew Taylor.
In the other all-NCEL clashes, Division one side Brigg Town won 2-1 at home to Premier Division Clipstone, Paul Grimes with an injury-time winner to send them through to the next stage.
A Steve Woolley double helped Worksop Town to a 4-2 defeat of visitors Hallam with Kyle Jordan and Adam Scott securing the win in the last quarter-of-an-hour.
And, in Sunday's only match, AFC Emley came from behind to upset Premier Division visitors Athersley Recreation, 2-1, Ruben Jerome and Ashley Flynn scoring late on after Kai Hancock had given the away side a 42nd minute lead.
Harry Viggars and Nash Connolly scored early on to claim a 2-1 home win for Hemsworth Miners Welfare over Runcorn Linnets, Parkgate enjoyed an identical scoreline at the expense of Irlam, Alex Lill and Mohammed Hamid with their goals, and two from Christopher Wood saw Pontefract Collieries progress 3-2 at home to Runcorn Town.
Martin Pembleton got the only goal of the game as Bottesford Town won 1-0 at home to Radford.
Six ties require replays in midweek after 1-1 draws for Bridlington Town at home to Silsden, Albion Sports at NCEL rivals Harrogate Railway Athletic and Retford United against visitors Leicester Road.
Pickering Town held hosts Sunderland Ryhope CW to a 2-2 scoreline, Franck Zalo's injury-time penalty snatched Nostell Miners Welfare a 3-3 draw at Maine Road whilst Shirebrook Town were denied at the death at Loughborough University in a thrilling match that ended 4-4.
The teams to fall at the Extra Preliminary Round stage were Barton Town Old Boys, Garforth Town, Liversedge, Maltby Main, Penistone Church, Staveley Miners Welfare and Thackley.
In Division One, Campion began life in the NCEL with a 5-2 victory at Westella & Willerby whilst Winterton Rangers, Eccleshill United and Worsbrough Bridge Athletic also started their seasons with away wins.
A Thomas Fairweather own goal midway through the first half saw Winterton prevail at Dronfield Town, Adam Turner struck twice for Eccleshill as they beat Teversal, 3-1, and stoppage time goals from Lee Garside and Bradley Kerr claimed Worsbrough a 2-1 win at Yorkshire Amateur.
The league's other new side Ollerton Town went down 3-2 at Grimsby Borough, Jason Flint's last-gasp penalty giving the hosts all three points after Lewis Bingham and Sam Dockwray scored for the visitors to bring the game back to 2-2.
There was also late drama as Hall Road Rangers beat visitors Glasshoughton Welfare by the same scoreline, Scott Phillips getting his second of the afternoon just before the final whistle.
The day's other Division One game saw a point each for Rossington Main and Selby Town after a 1-1 draw at Oxford Street.
