New management team at Glasshoughton
5th June, 2016
Glasshoughton Welfare have announced the appointment of Darren Holmes and Lee Vigars as their new joint management team for the coming season.
They replace Simon Houghton and Craig Wilkinson who resigned at the end of last season.
After playing junior football in the Ossett area, Holmes progressed as a full-time professional footballer gaining contracts at Barnsley, Bradford City and York City.
On returning to the non-league scene, he played at various clubs including Pontefract Collieries, Ossett Albion, Tadcaster Albion, AFC Emley and also Glasshoughton.
After retiring from playing, Holmes managed Ossett Albion Reserves and Under-19s before managing Nostell Miners Welfare in the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division. From there, he was assistant manager at Evo-Stik League Division One South team Goole AFC.
Crofton based Vigars has been the manager at Wakefield City for the past fourteen years. In his early playing days, he gained experience in the NCEL and Unibond League.
In 1997, he spent six months at West Ham United preparing for a four-year contract that he had signed with a club in New York. However, in his second season, he suffered a knee injury which forced him to return home.
He then played in the Football Conference for Grays Athletic before finally retiring due to the knee injury.
All at Glasshoughton Welfare have extended a warm welcome to the pair and wish them every success for the coming campaign.
