Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2015/16 #75
4th May, 2016
A 6-1 home defeat to Handsworth Parramore saw Pontefract Collieries relegated from the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division, Winterton Rangers won the Lincolnshire Senior Trophy, and Cleethorpes Town and Tadcaster Albion booked their places in the League Cup final on a dramatic Tuesday night.
The last three league matches were played with Pontefract knowing they needed a win at home to second-placed Handsworth to stay up and condemn Armthorpe Welfare to the drop.
And, the Colls took the lead through Kane Reece on 24 minutes before Kieran Wells quickly levelled and the visitors took complete control after the interval with Wells getting a second and Simon Harrison also grabbing a brace whilst Alex Rippon and Jon Froggatt completed the scoring.
So, it's commiserations to Pontefract who return to Division One after a season in the top flight, whilst Handsworth end their campaign on 94 points with Wells and Froggatt both finishing the season on forty goals apiece.
Liversedge, who spent most of the season in the relegation zone, won 2-1 at Retford United to go above their hosts into fourteenth spot with their fifth straight victory and end the campaign as the Premier Division's most in-form side.
Bradley Johnston had put the home side ahead early on but Robert Thomas had Sedge level by the interval and Joe Walton's late strike grabbed them the three points.
The start to Rainworth Miners Welfare's game at Pickering Town was delayed by fifteen minutes due to traffic problems and it seemed the Wrens were still on the team bus as the Pikes surged into a four goal lead in the first period.
Ged Dalton struck twice whilst there were also goals from Sam Calvert and Matthew Turnbull before Rainworth, who end the campaign in ninth spot, restored some pride in the second period as a brace from Liam Theakstone saw it end 4-2 to the sixth-placed Pikes.
Winterton came from two goals down to force a penalty shoot-out in their County Cup final with United Counties League side Blackstones at Sincil Bank.
Paul Morrill and Rob Northen netted in the second period and, with the game ending 2-2 after ninety minutes, it went to spot kicks with the first thirteen all converted before Blackstones missed and it was congratulations to Winterton who won 7-6 in the shoot-out.
And, in the League Cup semi-finals, Jonathan Oglesby's goal in first half stoppage time saw Cleethorpes progress with a 1-0 victory at Bridlington Town whilst Tadcaster Albion came from behind to win 2-1 at home to Albion Sports.
Lewis Morgan put the visitors ahead on 36 minutes but Tom Corner levelled before half-time and Josh Greening got what proved to be the winner with just over a quarter-of-an-hour remaining.
Cleethorpes and Tadcaster meet in the final at Garforth Town's J.S. White & Co. Community Stadium on Saturday 14th May, ko 3pm.
