Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2015/16 #9

7th September, 2015

Selby Town were the biggest winners on Saturday as they became one of thirteen Toolstation NCEL sides to progress from the First Qualifying Round of the FA Vase by annihilating visitors Askern, 12-0.

Kingsley Wetherald scored six of their goals, starting with a penalty in the opening minute, as the visitors were reduced to ten men and never recovered with Craig Muirhead, Ashley Hope, Tom Chamberlain, William Pepper, Martin Jones and Dane Mortimer all netting to record the Robins' biggest ever victory in a cup competition.

Westella VIP, Garforth Town and Rossington Main all followed Selby into the next stage with wins over league rivals.

Two goals each for Joe McFadyen and Chris Spinks saw Westella win 4-3 at Brigg Town despite going behind in the first few seconds, Garforth were 4-1 home victors against Albion Sports with Danny Harris, Ashley Preece, Mark Simpson and Luke Mangham on the scoresheet for the Miners.

And, Ben Hunter struck twice for Rossington as they won 4-2 at home to Pontefract Collieries, Lee Holmes and Jason Stokes with their other goals.

Maltby Main were one of five of our sides who went to other league opposition and came away with the win, Farbod Yousefi, Brain Cusworth and Dean Conway securing a 3-0 triumph at AFC Blackpool.

Brad Kerr netted two of Retford United's goals as they won 4-1 at Blaby & Whetstone Athletic whilst Mike Thompson scored a dramatic winner in the last minute of extra-time as Hall Road Rangers beat Esh Winning, 3-2.

A brace from Ombeni Ruhanduka saw Bridlington Town through, 2-1 at Penrith, and Yorkshire Amateur prevailed 2-1 at Ryton & Crawcrook Albion, Craig Heard and Joel Hughes scoring in the first half.

Bottesford Town defeated former NCEL visitors Appleby Frodingham, 4-1, Kieran Wells got the only goal of the game as Handsworth Parramore won at home to AFC Liverpool, there was a double for Dominic Blair as Hemsworth Miners Welfare went through with a 3-1 home win over Cammell Laird 1907 and Shirebrook Town beat Oakham United, 5-2, at Langwith Road.

Of the sides who bowed out of the competition, no-one will be more mystified at their exit as Parkgate who were 4-0 up after 24 minutes at home to Rochdale Town but found themselves 5-4 down before Oliver Graham's 89th minute penalty forced a further half-hour.

The visitors then scored in the second period of extra-time to go through, 6-5, to the despair of the Steelmen.

Joining them on the sidelines for this season are Barton Town Old Boys, Eccleshill United, Glasshoughton Welfare, Knaresborough Town, Liversedge, Nostell Miners Welfare, Pickering Town, Rainworth Miners Welfare, Staveley Miners Welfare, Winterton Rangers and Worsbrough Bridge Athletic who were all beaten by teams from other leagues.

And, there is one midweek replay as two hours of football produced no goals between Thackley and Whickham at Dennyfield.

In the Premier Division, Tadcaster Albion remain top, albeit by only a point now, after a late rally at Clipstone to draw 2-2.

Henry Sibenge and Adam Somes had put the home side in control by midway through the first period but George Conway brought the Brewers back into the game on 71 minutes and Josh Greening scored an injury-time equaliser to ensure the spoils were shared.

Second-placed Worksop Town, meanwhile, won 4-0 at Armthorpe Welfare with Mitch Husband's second half double confirming the win after earlier strikes from Conor Higginson and Kyle Jordan.

Cleethorpes Town picked up their first points of the campaign with a 3-1 home victory over Athersley Recreation, Daniel Trott with two of the Owls' goals.

The top two in Division One both won but Hallam take over at the summit on goal difference after a 5-0 win at Teversal, Michael Blythen scoring two with Jack Hargreaves, Steve Brammer and Brodie Cooper also netted as the visitors dominated the second period.

Hull United are now second despite their 2-1 win at the expense of visitors AFC Emley, Brett Agnew and Jamie Richardson with their goals, sandwiching a Kieran Ryan strike for their opponents.

Josh Barker scored twice early on as Lincoln Moorlands Railway secured their first win of the season, 4-3 at home to Dronfield Town, and Andrew Ring also got two as Penistone Church beat Grimsby Borough, 4-1, at Church View Road.
