Macron NCEL Premier Division side Worsbrough Bridge Athletic have announced that Lee Morris has stepped down as manager following an approach by another club.

The news comes almost three years to the day that he took over from Luke Forgione - in that time, Morris led his side to promotion to the Premier Division for the first time.

He also took them to the Final of the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup last season and leaves the club in a very healthy position in fourth place in the league table.

A statement released on Wednesday morning said: "We are naturally disappointed and did all we could to try and keep him at the club."

And, they added: "We part with memories that will last a lifetime and give massive thanks for his hard work in his time at the club."

Luke Smith has agreed to take over at the Briggers for an interim period to ensure there is stability ahead of Friday night's home league clash with Campion.

The club said: "We also want to thank the playing squad for pulling together in what is a difficult time for them.

"The response from the group since the announcement is credit to them as we now look to the future."
