Macron NCEL Division One side Club Thorne Colliery have announced that Gav Cooper and his assistant Ben Simpson are their new management team following the departure of James Baxendale last month.

The confirmation came on Wednesday evening, just hours after it was revealed that the pair had left neighbours and league rivals Crowle Colts.

They will be joined in the dugout by coaches Lee Ridley and Jon Taylor with Cooper taking charge for the first time next Wednesday when Thorne travel to Winterton Rangers for a Division One encounter.

Colliery's brief announcement is down to Cooper being away on holiday and they say a more formal introduction will be made on his return.

The news comes after Baxendale stepped down before the start of the season due to personal reasons and a statement from the club read: "Everyone at Club Thorne would like to place on record our sincere thanks to James for his hard work, commitment and dedication during his time as manager.

"His professionalism and efforts have been greatly appreciated, and he leaves the role with our gratitude and respect.

"James will always be welcome at the club.

"The club fully understands and supports James' decision and wishes him the very best for the future."
