8th October, 2026

The Second Round of this season’s JCP Construction NCEL Cup in memory of James Hitchcock continued in midweek with four more sides progressing to the last sixteen.

Leeds UFCA went through at the expense of their fellow Macron NCEL Division One hosts Club Thorne Colliery as Harrison Rowley and Johan Coughlan netted in a 2-1 victory.

Their goals came in the last quarter-of-an-hour as UFCA turned the game around having fallen behind to a Scott Hutchinson strike late in the first half.

An own goal was added to in injury-time by Scott Boden as Retford FC went through to the Third Round, the Premier Division visitors winning 2-0 at Division One side Harrogate Railway Athletic.

Connor Avison, Joseph Bhaskaran and Daniel Gibb found the net for Pickering Town as they won 3-1 at home to Dearne & District, Justin Circuit with a 79th minute consolation for the away side.

And, Tadcaster Albion also defeated fellow Premier Division opponents as Harry Croft, Oliver Metcalfe and Elliott Andrew secured a 3-2 victory at Campion.

Their goals were sandwiched by an opener from Ewan Gregson and by an 88th minute strike from Ben Grech-Brooksbank for the hosts.

In the Premier Division, Bottesford Town were unable to replace Dearne at the top of the table but they managed to rescue a point with two late goals at Albion Sports.

Zackary Sangster had seemingly given the hosting Lions an unassailable 3-1 lead by the hour mark, adding to Lewis Waddington’s opener and an own goal from Clayton Bryant in the first five minutes.

But, Bryant made amends with his side’s second on 85 before Harry Douglas ensured a 3-3 draw three minutes later.

Worsbrough Bridge Athletic climb to seventh after their 1-1 draw at fifth-placed Horbury Town, Lloyd Smith striking in stoppage time to grab a point after Joel Feirn had given the hosts a 34th minute lead.

Meanwhile, Handsworth are up to tenth following their 1-0 home victory over Barton Town, Jordan Hines with the 71st minute decider.

There was one match in Division One and second placed Field Olympic have closed the gap on leaders Brigg Town to one point after their 2-1 home win over the side just below them, Wombwell Town.

A Curtis Peters own goal put Wombwell ahead on ten minutes, but their lead was quickly snuffed out by Omar Habeeb and Steve Hollingworth claimed the win with his goal in the final quarter-of-an-hour.

Two all-NCEL First Round ties took place in the West Riding County Cup with Knaresborough Town and Wakefield AFC prevailing over league rivals.

Slater Barkham-Barnes, Ross McCormack and Samuel Leverett all struck in the opening 23 minutes as Knaresborough won 3-1 at Golcar United with George Doyle scoring for the hosts.

And, Kenzie Dillion was the matchwinner for Wakefield as they were single goal victors over visitors Selby Town.

There was a hat-trick for Oliver Wilson and Carlton Carty got the other two goals as Retford United romped past hosts Keyworth United 5-1 in the Second Round of the Notts Senior Cup.

But, Athersley Recreation bowed out at the Third Round stage of the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup with a 4-1 defeat at home to Pitching In Northern Premier League side Hallam after Nathan Perks had given them a 42nd minute lead.
