Update from Assistant Referee Secretary
1st November, 2026
The following update has been released by the Macron NCEL's Assistant Referee Secretary, Jay Wright, to all of the competition's match officials.
Last week on 40 appointments, I had over 15 handbacks through poor admin, double booking or illness. This as you can imagine causes additional unnecessary work for myself.
* Promotion candidates should have an active MOAS calendar; this is not evident on numerous 5-4 candidates.
* Rejection due to poor admin, could result in yourself not meeting the 5-4 criteria, and being moved down the pecking order for appointments.
* Officials should present a fair balance of weekends / mid-week availability, I do not offer a mid-week only option as this damages the core dates for appointments.
* Appointments are done four to five weeks in advance to help support myself and the county senior leagues locally.
* If you receive a county cup appointment, you must close your MOAS. (Guide can be supplied)
* Joint travel is within the league and FA guidelines, any issues with joint travel must be presented to myself prior to any fixture.
I will state the first two to three months of the season admin etc. was of a high standard, this sadly has fallen by the wayside lately and must improve.
If anyone would like to discuss further, please contact me via 07368 500129.
Thank you,
Jay Wright
