Update from Assistant Referee Secretary

30th June, 2026

The following update has been released by the Macron NCEL's Assistant Referee Secretary, Jay Wright, ahead of the new campaign.

As we are all aware, the 2026/27 season is fast approaching and I want to take a second to not just thank everyone who covered a game last season, to the assistants who have been promoted to Level 4 for the coming season but also to welcome the new officials to the NCEL pool for the upcoming season.

Going into my second season as NCEL assistant referee secretary, I just want to give everyone an overview on how the season will look going forward:

* The first weekend of the season is scheduled for the 25th of July, appointments for the first and second weekend of the season will commence on the 10th of July.

* Appointments, like the 2025/26 season, will work four-to-five weeks in advance; this process gives Step 7 leagues a clearer overview of available officials so please make sure your MOAS is accurate.

* If you receive a supply league/county cup fixture, please make sure your MOAS reflects this to avoid missed appointments by myself.

* Step 5/6 fees are now set by The FA and for the 2026/27 season Assistant Referees fees are set at £35 + 45p per mile and this will be valid for both the Premier Division and Division One. I am pleased to confirm this will increase with inflation going forward.

* The easiest way to communicate with myself is via WhatsApp and if you are unable to make a fixture or for any other issues please use my main contact of 07368 500129.

I look forward to working with you all and to another successful season in the NCEL.

Jay Wright
NCEL Assistant Referee Secretary
