Captain Leaves Seadogs
18th April, 2008
Scarborough Athletic have parted company with their captain, Jamie Waltham.
The 26-year-old is looking to play at a higher level after claiming to the Scarborough Evening News that he is being "victimised" by referees in the NCEL.
It comes after he was sent off during Saturday's 2-1 win over Pontefract Collieries.
It was his first game back in action after sitting out a three-match ban for playing a local league match under a different name whilst serving an earlier suspension picked up at Athletic.
Waltham said: "I haven't regretted coming down here at all, the fans have been great and the manager Brian France has been great to me.
"I would normally finish off the season with the club but, as we have nothing to play for, there doesn't seem much point and I know Brian will be looking to next year so I might not have played anyway.
"I do feel that Brian is the right man for the job and I wish everyone at the club the best for the future."
France added: "I am sad to see him go because he has been a great player for us since he joined up. We will have to move on though now and look to replace him."
