Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2022/23 #26

3rd November, 2022

A 3-1 home win over Knaresborough Town in midweek has moved Winterton Rangers up to fifth in the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division.

Scott Hellewell's side went behind to a seventh minute penalty that was dispatched by Danny Edwards for the visitors but they were level by the half-hour mark, courtesy of Luke Anderson.

Jack Varley then struck twice, one in each period, to make it four league wins out of six so far at the MKM Stadium for Rangers.

With Hallam's home clash with Silsden AFC called off due to a waterlogged pitch, the only other Premier Division match saw Bottesford Town climb out of the bottom two with a 2-1 victory at Eccleshill United.

Takuo Jitsukawa put the hosting Eagles in front early on but parity was restored before half-time through a Joe Simpson equaliser and then Declan Bacon's strike on the hour provided a much-needed win for the Poachers.

In Division One, second placed Horbury Town were only able to narrow the gap with leaders Campion to five points as they drew 2-2 at home to Harrogate Railway Athletic who are fourth.

Oliver Norman put the away side ahead in first half stoppage time only for Craig Laight to immediately equalise before Horbury took the lead with a quarter-of-an-hour remaining through Benjamin Agu.

Elliot Holmes, however, grabbed a second for the Rail in the last ten minutes to ensure that the spoils were shared.

Brigg Town are fifth after their 2-0 win at basement side Parkgate, Scott Phillips and Luke Sellers doing the damage in the opening half-hour.

Billy Mole scored twice for Wakefield AFC in their 5-1 victory over visitors Athersley Recreation, Harry Blankley, Jock Curran and Daniel Hernandez with their other goals as they move up to sixth.

And, Armthorpe Welfare climb to ninth following a 3-2 home win against Swallownest, Louis Wardle with a couple of their goals and Kane Reece with their third whilst Liam Frost and Oliver Grady netted for the away side.

Division One table-toppers Campion continued their excellent season with a 2-1 win over Pitching In Northern Premier League side Pontefract Collieries in the First Round of the West Riding County Cup.

Marcus Harper and Marcus Day grabbed the victory with two late goals after the Colls had taken a first half lead.

Meanwhile, Thackley progressed without kicking a ball as they were awarded their tie after league rivals Goole AFC forfeited the fixture.
