It was Second Round Qualifying in the Isuzu FA Vase at the weekend with 22 ties taking place involving Macron NCEL sides on the long Road to Wembley - and, as to be expected, there was a mixture of joy and disappointment for our clubs. In one of five matches that saw two of our teams square off against each other,
Brigg Town were 2-0 victors at
Athersley Recreation, Adam Drury's opener midway through the opening period added to by a Dayle Hutson strike on the hour mark for the Zebras.
Crowle Colts edged out visitors
Dearne & District with a 3-2 win having raced into a 2-0 lead by the seventh minute through a Ben Johnson penalty and a goal from Lewis Graham.
Joe Hare's own goal brought the away side back into the game with seven minutes remaining, Ashton Short restored Crowle's two goal advantage in stoppage time and Jamie Austin netted another for Dearne to keep the game on a knife edge until the final whistle.
It was even more thrilling at the Victoria Pleasure Ground where hosts
Goole AFC and
Horbury Town shared eight goals before the visitors went through 5-4 on penalties.
James Simmonite's first half brace for the Vikings sandwiched goals from Joseph Clegg and George Whittaker for the visitors to make it 2-2 by the interval before James Eyles and Stuart Ludlam secured a 4-2 lead for Goole early in the second period.
But, Lucas Smith struck twice within a minute midway through the period to restore parity and that's how it stayed until the shootout sent Horbury into the First Round Proper.
Alex Ingham's late leveller for
Harrogate Railway Athletic cancelled out Alex Washington's strike for visitors
Thackley in a 1-1 draw that saw the Rail progress 3-2 on spot kicks.
And,

Pickering Town were beaten by a single goal at Newark and Sherwood United and at home to Yarm & Eaglescliffe, respectively, whilst
Knaresborough Town lost 3-0 at Whitley Bay.
Nostell Miners Welfare were defeated 4-0 by visitors Droylsden and
Glasshoughton Welfare had an afternoon to forget as they lost 8-0 at Ramsbottom United.
Route One Rovers' tie at Holker Old Boys was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch whilst Sunday saw
Campion end the weekend action with a home win against Padiham.
Max Dickinson double was added to by Jamie Allsop in a 3-1 win at the Anytime Couriers Stadium to book the hosts' place in Monday's draw.
In league action, there was one game in the Premier Division and
Beverley Town have climbed up into fourth spot following a 4-0 win at
Wombwell Town.
McCauley Snelgrove struck in both halves to set them on their way and the victory was rubber-stamped by Nathan Ofori and Glen Sani in the last twenty minutes.
In Division One,
Worsbrough Bridge Athletic are now second as a Keelan Grist double, added to by Harrison Marvin and Josh Brown, ensured a 4-2 win at
Selby Town, the Robins goals both coming from Liam Flanagan in the last quarter-of-an-hour.
Club Thorne Colliery missed out on a chance to climb into the top five as Omar Sanyang and Lewis Harding pounced each side of the interval for visitors
Leeds UFCA in a 2-0 victory that lifts them up into seventh whilst their hosts stay sixth.
Peter Roberts, Jay Harris and Kevin Gonzalez were the scorers as
Ilkley Town raced into a three goal lead at
South Leeds by the 33rd minute.
The hosts recovered through James Law and Shay Muirhead but the points went to the away side who held on for a 3-2 win that means they are up to eleventh whilst South Leeds drop to sixteenth.
And, basement side
Winterton Rangers got a much-needed second victory of the league season as they prevailed 3-2 at home to local rivals
Appleby Frodingham.
All of the goals came in the opening 37 minutes with Charlie Bibby scoring twice and Liam White adding to Rangers' tally whilst Jack Tierney and Harry Lewis found the net for App-Frod.
