Changes in dugout at Church
8th April, 2025
NCEL Premier Division side Penistone Church have announced a change to the line-up of their management team following co-boss Stephen Lenthall's decision to step down at the end of the season.
It was announced last month that he would be retiring from the role due to personal reasons and growing work commitments, ending over thirty years at the club that began with him playing for the U12s.
Making his way up into the first team, his playing days were ended abruptly by injury at the age of 26, after which he took up coaching starting with youth sides before getting involved in the seniors set-up.
In a statement released on the club's website, Lenthall said: "I want to say a massive thank you to all the players I’ve had the honour of managing, and to everyone who has supported me along the way.
"I’ve made some special connections and friendships that will last a lifetime."
Church's campaign ended at the weekend with a 7-2 home victory over Frickley Athletic that means they finish in eighth spot in the Premier Division table.
Planning for next season is already underway and the club have announced that co-manager John Whitehead will be staying on.
And, he will be joined at the helm by Brett Lovell who is stepping up from the assistant manager position.
