Worsbrough Bridge Athletic will play in the Macron NCEL Premier Division for the first time next season after their win in the Division One Play-Off Final on Saturday.

The Briggers, who are one of our founder clubs, have ended a 35-year stay in Division One after they defeated Wakefield AFC at the Totally Training Stadium in front of their biggest ever crowd of 1,617.

Keelan Grist struck his 29th goal of the season to put Worsbrough ahead in the sixteenth minute before Akram Lasalire made sure of the victory around the hour mark.

It means that both teams that finished second in the Premier Division and Division One have claimed promotion in the play-offs after Beverley Town's triumph last weekend.

And, home advantage is proving vital in the end-of-season showdown as the last eight NCEL Play-Off Finals have been won by the hosting side.

Meanwhile, it was disappointment once again for Wakefield who have now missed out on promotion in the play-offs for four years in a row.

There was one game in midweek with Tadcaster Albion making up for their defeat in the Premier Division Play-Off Final by lifting the West Riding County Cup at the expense of NCEL rivals Route One Rovers on Tuesday night.

Charlie Owen put the Brewers ahead on ten minutes and it looked as though that would be the only goal of the game before a dramatic injury-time equaliser from Reece Thompson for Rovers who were looking to be crowned champions for a second successive year.

The tie was decided on penalties with Tadcaster prevailing 5-4 to claim the trophy in a nail-biting finale.
