Beverley Town laid to rest the disappointment of missing out on promotion twelve months ago by winning this year's Macron NCEL Premier Division Play-Off Final to book their place at Step 4 for next season. They were keen not to repeat the emotions felt after they were beaten on penalties at Hallam in the showdown at the end of the last campaign and this time round they had home advantage against
Tadcaster Albion in a clash between the sides that finished second and fourth in the table.
And, as expected, it was a tight affair for an hour until Glen Sani put Beverley ahead and then Luka Suluburic came off the bench to grab their second on 82 minutes.
Noah Kiwomya, another substitute, pulled one back for the visiting Brewers as the game entered stoppage time but Beverley held on to make sure they would not taste defeat for a second successive year, claiming a 2-1 victory.
Congratulations to them on their move up to Step 4 after spending four years in the NCEL whilst commiserations to Tadcaster who can still lift some silverware when they take on
Route One Rovers in the Final of the West Riding County Cup on Tuesday night.
Meanwhile,
Worsbrough Bridge Athletic will host
Wakefield AFC in the Final of the Division One Play-Offs next weekend with the winner gaining promotion to the Premier Division.
The Briggers had the most comfortable afternoon as they overcame visitors
Leeds UFCA 3-0, Jake Squires' first-half opener added to after the interval by Max Skelton and Jake Holdsworth.
Wakefield, however, needed a stoppage-time equaliser from Jerome Greaves to keep their hopes alive after an Alex Ingham double had seemingly put visitors
Harrogate Railway Athletic into the final.
But, Christopher Salt drew the scores level firstly before Greaves' last-gasp leveller took the tie into a penalty shoot-out that Wakefield won 4-1.
It means the sides that finished the Division One campaign in second and third will face each other at Worsbrough's Totally Training Stadium next Saturday.
