Five sides will go into their final round of matches on Saturday looking to avoid ending the Macron NCEL campaign in the Premier Division relegation zone after midweek games eased concerns for some or made the upcoming weekend even more nervous for others.Eccleshill United are safe after a 1-0 win at basement side
Wombwell Town, Junior Nasihunu's 35th minute strike enough for the victory that means they can no longer finish in the bottom two.
And,
Rossington Main are virtually assured of a Premier Division spot next season as they picked up a priceless point in their two midweek matches.
A 3-1 home loss to play-off contenders
Beverley Town on Tuesday was followed by a 2-2 draw with visitors
Knaresborough Town on Thursday that leaves them three points above the drop zone with one game to play and a far superior goal difference over the side currently next-to-bottom
Bottesford Town.
George Noble got Main's goal in the first of those games but a Cameron Connelly double and an Andrew Norfolk strike saw Beverley prevail to keep up their form as they look to join champions
Liversedge in making the move up to Step 4.
Then, substitute Masai Arbouin came off the bench in injury time to grab a spectacular equaliser for Rossington in their game with Knaresborough to grab the point that, barring a massive upset at the weekend, should secure their Step 5 status.
Main had come from 2-0 down, Ben Gelder and Aaron White with the goals for the visitors, before Mackenzie Warne started the fightback on the hour mark.
Albion Sports missed out on a chance of getting themselves safe as they went down 3-0 at
Golcar United to remain two points above the drop zone alongside
Thackley and
Horbury Town.
Oliver Russon's opener was added to by George Doyle's penalty and a Rhomani Murray second-half strike to move Golcar up into the top half of the table.
The midweek's other two Premier Division games ended in 1-1 draws with third-placed
Sheffield sharing the spoils with visitors Liversedge, Luke Mangham with a quick equaliser for the hosts after Alfie Dean had put Sedge in front.
The point means that Sheffield are guaranteed a home tie in the play-off semi-finals and they will find out who their opponents will be after this weekend's games.
And, Knaresborough took the lead through a Jack Lazenby penalty in their first of two midweek matches, but Marshall Nock restored parity for the visiting
Pickering Town midway through the second half.
In Division One,
Worsbrough Bridge Athletic and
Harrogate Railway Athletic both won to claim their play-off spots with a Keelan Grist double earning a 2-0 home victory for the Briggers against
Armthorpe Welfare to keep them third whilst ending their visitors' faint hopes of a top-five finish.
James Eyles, meanwhile, struck with six minutes remaining as the Rail beat hosts
Club Thorne Colliery 1-0 to extend their season whilst their opponents stay eighth but are now eight points away from the top five with three matches left to play.
It means there are now only four teams vying for the one place left to fill and
Leeds UFCA have now occupy that remaining berth, Omar Sanyang and Junayd Cassius-Gill with their goals in a 2-0 home win over
Selby Town.
They leapfrog Brigg Town into fifth whilst
Route One Rovers are three points off the play-off places in seventh after Musa Dukuray Corrah and Anees Younis netted in a 2-1 win at
Doncaster City, Jacob Toomer with a late consolation for the hosts.
Meanwhile, in a mid-table clash, Roman Myers' double for
Goole AFC sandwiched goals for Curtis Morrison and Mason Laws in a 2-2 draw at
Maltby Main that keeps those sides thirteenth and fourteenth in the table, respectively.
And,
Tadcaster Albion are through to the final of this season's West Riding County Cup after a 3-0 win at North West Counties League side Barnoldswick Town, Miguel Cassama, Matthew Mulhearn and Charlie Owen doing the damage in the opening twenty minutes.
