Macron NCEL 2025/26 Match Review #66

26th March, 2026

Sheffield notched up their seventh consecutive win in midweek to secure a place in the end of season Macron NCEL Premier Division play-offs.

A 3-1 win at Frickley Athletic means they are the first side to stake their claim in getting a promotion place alongside champions Liversedge.

Connor Cutts and Alexander Hardwick gave them a two-goal advantage by the interval before Lucas Robinson pulled one back on 83 minutes to give the hosts hope of a comeback.

But, that was quickly snuffed out by Luke Mangham who grabbed Sheffield's third to make sure of a victory on their travels.

Souleymane Coulibaly struck twice as Pickering Town won 4-0 at relegated Wombwell Town to keep themselves within a mathematical chance of finishing in the top five although it is now a remote hope for the Pikes.

George Brown and Charlie Thompson netted early on to give them the perfect start and the win leaves them nine points off the play-off zone with three games left to play.

Division One champions Dearne & District powered through the 100-point barrier as they thrashed hosts Doncaster City 6-1, Adam Baskerville's double added to by Jamie Austin, Owen Fieldsend, Joshua Dacre and Max Eastwood whilst Billy Grimshaw netted for the hosts.

Second-placed Wakefield AFC, whose play-off place is confirmed, were beaten 2-1 at home by a side looking to join them in the end-of-season showdown.

Keelan Grist and Connor Glavin scored in the opening eight minutes to give Worsbrough Bridge Athletic the win that lifts them up to third and on the verge of a confirming a top-five finish.

Leeds UFCA's hopes were dented though as the six-placed side lost 3-0 at Winterton Rangers to remain four points off the play-off zone.

Ben Silburn, Tyler Hamilton and Charlie Bibby were the scorers for Rangers in a massive win that still keeps their hopes of safety alive and they are four points away from escaping the drop zone.

Wins for Club Thorne Colliery and Armthorpe Welfare maintain their outside chances of a late surge into the top five.

Bayley Lowe's opener was added to by a Michael Dunn double and a William Mendonca strike as Armthorpe won 4-1 at home to Ilkley Town.

But, Thorne's win was even more emphatic, Marc Newsham with a hat-trick, William Gomes netting twice and Luke Williams and Andrew Wright also getting on the scoresheet in a 7-0 victory over visitors Appleby Frodingham.

Athersley Recreation have moved to five points clear of danger after James Woodhouse, Kane Reece, Keenan Davies-Mosley, Jack Woodcock and Nathaneal Dyer found the net in a 5-1 win at relegated Glasshoughton Welfare.

That leaves next-to-bottom Nostell Miners Welfare in peril, especially after their 2-1 loss at Louth Town, Thomas Street with a late consolation after Theo Kitt-Bushell and Will Pennell had secured the win for the White Wolves who climb to six points above the trapdoor.

Meanwhile, Rossington Main bowed out of the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup at the Semi-Finals stage as they went down 5-1 at Worksop Town, George Noble with their goal.

The bad weather, however, put paid to three games with Tadcaster Albion's trip to Barnoldswick Town in the West Riding County Cup called off along with Premier Division matches involving Golcar United at home to Albion Sports and Liversedge at Knaresborough Town.

And, Maltby Main's home clash with Route One Rovers was abandoned on 38 minutes due to a waterlogged pitch with the visitors leading 1-0 at the time.
