Macron NCEL 2025/26 Match Review #57

22nd February, 2026

Liversedge have maintained their eight-point lead at the top of the Macron NCEL Premier Division after their 6-1 win at Albion Sports on Saturday.

Kelan Swales and George Green had them 2-0 up by the 48-minute mark before Finn Donovan and Lewis Barlow stretched their advantage further in the final quarter of the game.

Niall Heaton pulled one back for the Lions but a late double from James Clark made the victory even more emphatic for the visitors who stay in pole position for a quick return to Step 4.

Second-placed Beverley Town are now the only real challengers to the throne as they claimed their eighth straight win with a 3-1 defeat of hosts Frickley Athletic.

McCauley Snelgrove and Matthew Plumber struck late in the first half to give them a comfortable cushion by the interval, Charlie Clegg halved the deficit for the hosts with a 61st minute penalty but Jack Humphreys secured the points for the visitors with their third on 79.

The battle for play-off places, meanwhile, continues to hot up with only seven points separating Campion in third and Pickering Town five positions below them.

Patrick Sykes, Shay Muirhead and Ewan Gregson were the scorers as Campion won 3-0 at Bottesford Town whilst Barton Town and Tadcaster Albion catapulted themselves into the top five with victories on Friday night.

Barton leapfrog Sheffield as their 4-0 home win dumped their visitors down into seventh, a Joel Shepard hat-trick doing most of the damage whilst Craig King also found the net for the Swans.

And, Tadcaster Albion won 2-0 at home to Golcar United to climb into fifth, Miguel Cassama and Desmond Okoro with the goals for the Brewers in the second half.

Handsworth drop down into sixth as they went down to a 2-0 loss at Knaresborough Town, Ben Gelder and Jack Lazenby with the goals at the back end of the opening period.

And, Pickering keep their play-off aspirations as they remain in touch in seventh spot as Souleymane Coulibaly scored the only goal of the game in their match at Thackley.

Parkgate's hopes were dented, however, as they were beaten 3-2 at Penistone Church, Lennon O'Grady's double added to by a Jordan Coduri strike lifting the hosts into tenth, one place behind the Steelmen whose goals came courtesy of Bradley Morton and Owen Kelly.

Meanwhile, the bottom two met as the fight to avoid relegation gathers pace, Rossington Main ending up 3-0 home victors over Wombwell Town to move them to within one point of safety whilst their visitors, who are now winless in twenty games, remain twelve points below the trapdoor.

Myron Gibbons, Dylan Mantle and Harry Mitchell found the net to claim a priceless win in Main's bid to escape the drop.

And, Horbury Town keep a four-point gap between themselves and danger as a Ryan Makings' hat-trick helped them to a 4-0 home win over Eccleshill United with Samuel Kyeremeh also getting on the scoresheet.

In Division One, leaders Dearne & District saw their Friday night game at Nostell Miners Welfare postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

That gave Wakefield AFC a chance to close the gap a little in second spot and they took full advantage, stretching their unbeaten run to fifteen games with a 4-1 victory at home to Selby Town.

Thomas Hinton's brace and one each for Basile Zottos and Bolton Makwedza secured the win that sees them close the gap at the top to six points whilst Ebenezer Ansah struck for the visiting Robins.

Third-placed Worsbrough Bridge Athletic were also without a game as their home clash with Doncaster City was the other match to be called off due to the recent wet weather.

Harrogate Railway Athletic tightened their grip on a play-off place as a James Eyles double sandwiched a Joseph Navier goal in a 3-0 win at Athersley Recreation.

The Rail are now three points above fifth-placed Brigg Town who went down to a single-goal loss at home to Route One Rovers, Reece Thompson with the decisive strike on 39 minutes.

Leeds UFCA could not get closer to Brigg, however, as they were beaten 3-2 at Crowle Colts to stay nine points behind the Zebras in sixth.

Adam Jones had given UFCA an early lead but Kurt Robinson restored parity and Robert Guilfoyle converted a penalty to put the hosts in front by the interval.

Omar Sanyang levelled the scores once again but Guilfoyle's second of the afternoon meant it was Crowle who took the spoils.

Club Thorne Colliery won 4-0 home to Ilkley Town to keep themselves in seventh spot, James Simmonite, Reiss Harrison, Harry Brown and Marc Newsham with their second half goals.

They stay above Armthorpe Welfare who beat visitors Glasshoughton Welfare 5-0, Joel Learmouth striking twice with Harry Charlotte, William Mendonca and Ryan Ellison also finding the net.

Glasshoughton's position is looking perilous as they are now seventeen points away from safety and firmly entrenched in the basement having failed to win in their last twenty league games.

There was a ten-goal thriller as South Leeds won 6-4 at home to Louth Town in a game that the visitors were leading 3-1 at the interval.

Warren Carr, Mark Ferguson and Harley Blankley turned the game on its head by the 64th minute, however, to give the hosts a 4-3 lead before Akram Lasalire's second of the afternoon stretched their advantage further.

Harvey Lidgard struck to bring Louth back into the game, adding to their earlier goals from Kieran Perry, Elliot Broughton and Adam Milson, but Ryan McKendry made sure of a home victory with his side's sixth in the 89th minute.

Meanwhile, there were 3-1 home wins for Goole AFC and Winterton Rangers with late goals from Harry Milner and Harry Wilson grabbing a victory for the Vikings at the expense of Appleby Frodingham.

And, Winterton's triumph came courtesy of goals from Lewis Shillito, Oliver Nicholson and Ben McGregor to lift themselves out of the relegation zone, replaced in the bottom three by Athersley.
