Congratulations to Silsden AFC who were crowned NCEL Premier Division champions on Saturday following their 2-1 victory at Pickering Town.Going into the day's action, the only scenario that would guarantee the Cobbydalers the title this weekend was a win for them and a defeat for
Golcar United who were at home to
Hallam in a meeting of the other top three sides.
At the break in both games, Silsden were behind, Omar Sanyang giving the Pikes a 44th minute lead, but they would have been given a boost by the news that Hallam were 1-0 up, James Cadman with the Countrymen's goal.
Kayle Price levelled for Silsden midway through the second half and when Robbie Fox put them ahead in the 80th minute the title was almost in their hands.
Leon Howarth struck a second for Hallam in stoppage time to claim a 2-0 win for his side and Silsden knew at the final whistle in their game at Mill Lane that they were confirmed as champions, sparking furious celebrations as the trophy was presented to them.
Hallam's victory secured themselves a play-off spot with four sides now battling it out to join them in the other three spaces.
Golcar are third, six points clear of
Albion Sports who are the only team outside the top five who could realistically claim a play-off berth, whilst
Beverley Town boosted their hopes with a 3-0 home victory over
Campion.
McCauley Snelgrove and Kian Larkin gave them a 2-0 lead by half-time with Cameron Connelly adding a third with eighteen minutes remaining as they move up into fourth spot above
Thackley and Sports who drew 1-1 when they met on Friday night at the Horsfall Community Stadium.
Nathan Cartman had given the hosting Lions a 50th minute lead but that was quickly cancelled out through Tawheed Ahmed for Thackley.
The other Friday game in the top flight saw another 1-1 draw between hosts
Barton Town and
Tadcaster Albion, Andrew Shepherd with the opener for the visitors before Fraser Papprill made sure the spoils were shared early in the second period.
Elsewhere, Oliver Nowak pounced to grab a 3-2 win for
Rossington Main at
Bottesford Town in a game that had seen Jonathan Nyantou score in the opening seconds for the hosting Poachers.
Ross Hannah had struck twice to turn the game in the visitors' favour before Aristides Cunha restored parity and Nowak re-established the away side's lead in the 72nd minute.
William Jenkinson was the matchwinner for
Parkgate as they beat hosts
Frickley Athletic 1-0 and
Penistone Church defeated visitors
Eccleshill United by the same scoreline, Thomas Brennan with the decider.
The title chase in Division One has swung in leaders
Horbury Town's favour but they needed an injury-time winner from Thomas Brook to take all three points in a 2-1 home victory over bottom side
Yorkshire Amateur.
Noel Nfonkey had put the Ammers in front after a quarter-of-an-hour before Declan McGivern's leveller towards the start of the second period and Brook's last gasp strike stopped what would have been a major upset.
Horbury are now seven points clear of second-placed
Wakefield AFC who drew 1-1 at next-to-bottom
Appleby Frodingham, Billy Mole's late leveller rescuing them a point after Adbdulrahman Alghamdi had given the hosts a first half stoppage time lead.
Wombwell Town were 4-0 winners on Friday night to maintain their gap on the summit to eight points in third, Oliver Fearon's double added to by Edward Agnew and Cian Guest in their victory over
Worsbrough Bridge Athletic.
Dearne & District have strengthened their grip on a play-off place as Justin Circuit and Jamie Austin netted in their 2-1 home win against
Nostell Miners Welfare to give themselves a six point cushion in fourth.
Ilkley Town currently complete the top five but they fell to a 3-1 loss at
Harrogate Railway Athletic, Harry Brown with their goal whilst Desmond Okoro, Samuel Drake and Josh Lockwood were on the scoresheet for the Rail.
Ilkley's defeat, though, did not prove too costly as the two sides chasing them for a play-off spot, Worsbrough and
Brigg Town, were both also beaten.
Brigg fell to a 3-0 loss to visitors
Shelley, Akram Lasalire, Thomas Radley and Stephen Williams with the goals, as the Zebras' play-off hopes continue to fade having picked up only one win in their last six matches.
In the race to avoid relegation alongside Yorkshire Amateur, App-Frod's draw means they are now six points from safety with three games remaining, the side just above the trapdoor now being
Dronfield Town.
They lifted themselves out of the bottom three with a 2-1 home victory over
Maltby Main, James Lindores' 76th minute strike ultimately proving to be what could be a priceless winner for Chris Millington's side who are now two points ahead of Nostell who drop below the dotted line.
The biggest winners of the weekend were
Armthorpe Welfare who beat visitors
Swallownest 7-2, courtesy of Marc Newsham's hat-trick and one each from Alfie Charlotte, William Gomes, Ryan Ellison and Harley McCormack.
South Leeds shook off dogged resistance from visitors
Athersley Recreation to win 4-3, Kane Withington with a couple of goals for Danny Chadwick's side in a highly entertaining game.
And, it was honours even at the Chesterfield Poultry Stadium, Jordan Buckham's equaliser for hosts
Club Thorne Colliery in a 1-1 draw with
Selby Town who had taken an early lead through Samuel Calvert.
Meanwhile, heavy rain caused the abandonment of a couple of matches due to waterlogged pitches with
Handsworth's home clash with
Knaresborough Town in the Premier Division and
Louth Town's trip to
Glasshoughton Welfare in Division One cut short by the deluge.
