NCEL Match Review 2024/25 #52

13th February, 2025

Beverley Town have moved up to third in the Premier Division by beating a promotion rival whilst Wombwell Town have closed the gap on the Division One leaders with a win over them in a quiet but fascinating midweek of NCEL action.

Elliott Andrew's second half brace secured Beverley a 2-1 victory at Albion Sports in Monday night's match.

They jump up above Thackley and Hallam as the jostling continues in the play-off positions.

Sports, who claimed a late consolation from the penalty spot through Nathan Cartman, remain in sixth position, now four points away from the top five.

The division's other midweek game saw Campion win 3-0 at Winterton Rangers on Wednesday to climb into seventh and keep their play-off ambitions alive.

Aidan Kirby's first half spot kick was added to after the interval by Aidan Day and Ewan Gregson to leave Rangers still twelve points adrift of safety in the relegation zone.

In Tuesday night's Division One matches, the chase for the title took a twist as second placed Wombwell beat visitors Horbury Town by a single goal.

Edward Agnew pounced midway through the second half to claim the victory that closes the gap between his side and their opponents to ten points.

But, Wombwell have three games in hand to prove that the race for the trophy is not over.

Dearne & District are up to sixth, now only a point away from the play-off places after a brace each from Bayley Lowe and Jamie Austin claimed a 4-1 victory at relegation-threatened Appleby Frodingham.

Their hosts drop to the foot of the table on goal difference and remain ten points behind the side just outside the bottom three, Dronfield Town.

Kenneth Effah struck for Glasshoughton Welfare as they beat visitors Selby Town 1-0 and they are up into eleventh.

And, it was goalless between Club Thorne Colliery and Nostell Miners Welfare who climb to fourteenth and stay in eighteenth place, respectively.
