NCEL Match Review 2024/25 #21

6th October, 2024

Albion Sports won Friday night's top-of-the-table NCEL Premier Division clash to climb to the summit, overtaking Penistone Church by beating them 3-0 at the Horsfall Community Stadium.

It was the Lions' fifth straight victory whilst Church have lost their last three with Nathan Cartman giving the home side a nineteenth minute lead before Lewis Waddington added a second late on and Cartman doubled his tally in stoppage time.

One point now separates the top four sides as Golcar United and Silsden AFC also won in Saturday's action.

Keegan Hartley's opener and a Callum Petch double had Golcar 3-0 up by the quarter-of-an-hour mark at Frickley Athletic before the hosts almost drew level with goals from Jack Varley and Jamie Tomlinson early in the second period.

Alfie Wilkinson, however, made sure of the points for the visitors as he made it 4-2 with five minutes remaining.

Two late goals from Kayle Price saw Silsden come from behind to beat Knaresborough Town 3-2 after the away side had seemingly earned the victory with Benjamin Parkes' 80th minute strike.

Thackley drop two places to fifth after their 1-0 loss at Pickering Town, Omar Sanyang with the 44th minute decider to lift the Pikes up into eleventh.

The sides from sixth to eighth - Handsworth, Hallam and Parkgate - all lost but stay in the same positions they were in at the start of the weekend.

A Joseph Colley strike, an own goal from Owen Haigh and a Zak Khan goal helped Campion to a 3-1 home win over Handsworth, Thomas Cropper with a late consolation for the Ambers.

Hallam went down by a single goal at Beverley Town, Cameron Connelly with the vital strike in the 28th minute to move his side four points clear of the bottom two.

And, Parkgate were beaten 4-2 at Barton Town in a game that was tied at 2-2 with eight minutes to go before Ali Spencer Aydemir's second of the afternoon, added to by Andrew Norfolk, saw the Swans prevail.

Goole AFC are beginning to get stranded at the foot of the table after their 6-1 loss at Eccleshill United, Harry Spooner netting for the Vikings.

But, the hosts cantered to the win with two goals for Talent Ndlovu and one each for Zackary Sangster, Idris Atta, Hass Gorji and Jahro Parchment.

Winterton Rangers find themselves back in the drop zone after their 1-0 defeat at the hands of hosts Bottesford Town, Matthew Broadley with a seventeenth minute decider.

And, a Mason Wilson own goal was added to by Ashley Worsfold in stoppage time as Rossington Main were 2-0 home winners against Tadcaster Albion.

Horbury Town's lead at the top of Division One remains at three points despite a 0-0 draw for them on their travels to Club Thorne Colliery.

Dearne & District could not close the gap, and drop to third, as Justin Circuit cancelled out an early breakthrough from Sam Clothier for visitors Harrogate Railway Athletic in their 1-1 draw.

A Gavin Allott double, one from the penalty spot, along with one each for Joshua Nodder and Jack Wilson saw Wombwell Town win 4-0 at Shelley and they jump above Dearne into second.

Maltby Main and Athersley Recreation retain their places in the top five after their victories.

Jordan Pilling's hat-trick helped Maltby to a 4-1 win at Armthorpe Welfare whilst Nathan Perks struck twice for the Rec as they defeated visitors Louth Town 4-2.

Daniel Smith and Alfie Dean were the scorers for Ilkley Town as they beat hosts Brigg Town 2-0 to keep a strong grip on sixth spot.

Smith scored a spectacular overhead kick but his afternoon was ended early by a serious leg injury and all at the NCEL wish him a speedy recovery.

South Leeds continue their climb up the table, up to seventh following their 2-1 home victory over Wakefield AFC, recovering from an early own goal to take the points, courtesy of James Law and Luca Grant.

Basement side Yorkshire Amateur took the lead at Swallownest, Brandon Emovon with their opener, but Alex Wonham and James Bytheway ensured the points stayed at the Swall Siro in a 2-1 win for the hosts.

The other two bottom-three teams, however, tasted victory with Henry Curtis grabbing an injury-time winner for Appleby Frodingham as they won 2-1 at home to Nostell Miners Welfare.

And, Worsbrough Bridge Atletic were victorious by the same scoreline at Selby Town, Connor Glavin with their 75th minute decider.

Meanwhile, Glasshoughton Welfare struck twice in the last four minutes to snatch a 2-2 draw at Dronfield Town.

Liam Flanagan's goal and a Miguel Cassama penalty earned them what had seemed an unlikely point after Callum Mawbey and Callum Riley had struck for the hosts.
