Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2022/23 #65

6th April, 2023

Emley AFC kept alive their hopes of finishing second in the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division with a 3-0 home victory over Frickley Athletic in midweek.

Ross Hardaker's first half double was added to by Iyrwah Gooden after the interval to move the third-placed Pewits to within seven points of Winterton Rangers with three games remaining for them in the chase for the Inter-Step Play-Off place for a chance of promotion.

Rangers, meanwhile, have one match left to play and a victory at the weekend at home to Hallam will ensure they finish in second place, regardless of how Emley complete their campaign.

Despite the midweek defeat, Frickley could breathe a sigh of relief, meanwhile, as Goole AFC's loss at Garforth Town means Athletic can no longer finish in the relegation zone.

Henry Curtis struck for the Vikings at Garforth but not before Jamie Barkway's opener and a quickfire brace from Charlie Marshall had the home side well in front.

Sam Barker completed a 4-1 victory for the Miners in the 69th minute and they climb to fourth in the table whilst Goole continue to battle it out with Bottesford Town to avoid ending the season in the bottom two.

There was a hat-trick for Matthew Sykes as Eccleshill United were 3-0 home victors over Hemsworth Miners Welfare and Ellis Hudson's penalty for hosts Silsden AFC cancelled out Harrison Coley's strike for Barton Town in a 1-1 draw.

And, Thackley led twice at Albion Sports through Ben Grech-Brooksbank and Aidan Chippendale but had their advantage quickly cancelled out on both occasions through Hass Gorji and Robbie Fox in a 2-2 draw at Albion Sports.

Division One champions Campion smashed through the 100 goal difference barrier as an Ashley Flynn double, added to by Aidan Day, Marcus Day and Samuel Bradley saw them win 5-2 at Nostell Miners Welfare.

Harvey Booth and Tawheed Ahmed found the net for Nostell who stay twelfth whilst Campion are now thirteen points clear at the summit following a defeat for second-placed Harrogate Railway Athletic.

Fatlum Ibrahimi scored for the Rail in a 3-1 loss at Beverley Town, Robbie Start, Scott Phillips and Oliver Bladwin with the goals for the home side who jump up to tenth spot.

Armthorpe Welfare moved into eighth following their 2-1 win at Glasshoughton Welfare, Cian Guest with what proved to be the winner on 81 minutes.

And, basement side Athersley Recreation's survival challenge is still going after Lee Garside scored in stoppage time to claim a 2-1 win at home to Dronfield Town to move them to within four points of safety with two games to play.

It's a tough ask for the Rec who need to win both of their matches and hope results elsewhere go their way but the midweek victory will have given them the boost they need going into the final couple of fixtures.

Meanwhile, one Division One game was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch with Swallownest now entertaining Brigg Town next Wednesday (12th).
